Trend watch: APAC
Growth in derivatives investments is driving the need for increased automation for buy side operations; complex instruments require sophisticated technologies for trading and portfolio management. Along with regulatory developments, particularly in Japan and Australia, we have seen increased demand for more robust pre- and post- trade compliance tools.
An increased focus on best execution, along with more asset managers wishing to trade electronically with global brokers and specialized trade execution venues has led to the rapid adoption of FIX in the APAC region.
Australia, the world’s sixth-largest superannuation market, has recently seen more and more Superfund managers seeking to benefit their organizations and their clients by bringing fund management in-house. Charles River helps clients with the many challenges they face in this market, such as complying with new regulations for new investment classes and consolidating fund views from several external portfolios.
APAC: Local markets drive our development
Charles River has had extensive success in localizing the Charles River Investment Management System for specific markets around the globe and has provided firms such as Tyndall Investment Management with a product to satisfy all of their local requirements.
From Thai bonds to Australia’s superannuation funds, our system manages the most complex and diverse instruments to suit the needs of diverse APAC markets; some examples are:

- Hong Kong: Securities and Future Commission (SFC) and Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPF)
- Japan: Investment Trust Association (ITA)
