Version 9.1: Advanced Execution Management Capabilities

Version 9.1 marks the Charles River Investment Management System’s transition from an order management system (OMS) with execution capabilities, to a complete, advanced order and execution management system (OEMS), on a single consolidated platform. Combined OEMS functionality eliminates the need to manage multiple systems – streamlining workflows and significantly lowering a client’s total cost of ownership.

“Having separate OMS and EMS systems can give an incomplete picture of order status, making it difficult to verify best execution,” says Stephen Engdahl, Director, Product Management, Charles River Development. “Unlike stand-alone EMS systems that only carry trader-level details, Version 9.1 has combined OEMS functionality, providing a ‘from the beginning’ order lifecycle audit trail – from portfolio manager to trader. Clients have a complete picture of order status and can see how an order is worked with multiple brokers and venues. Date/time and user stamps show what happened to the order and when. This is particularly important in Europe under the MiFID regulations that require transparency and best execution.”

Execution management capability is a core component of Charles River Trader, and there is no additional charge to Charles River clients leveraging Version 9.1 for OMS. Clients using older versions of Charles River IMS can leverage the firm’s hosted EMS solution, which is tightly-integrated and operates with local Version 8 installations – allowing deployment of a full OEMS or a standalone EMS (local or hosted).

“Generally, many OMSs are built on older technology that cannot support EMS capabilities, real-time updates, high volumes or scalability requirements,” says Tom Driscoll, Managing Director, Global, Charles River Development. “Version 9.1’s Charles River Trader Blotter is modern.  It was designed for EMS performance, but is also combined with OMS functionality – offering clients the best of both worlds.”
